Tamara has focused her practice in the areas of healthcare law, medical liability and personal injury defense, and commercial litigation. Tamara also has extensive experience with all facets of healthcare compliance in the non-litigation setting, including administrative investigations, governmental agency inquiries, and fraud and abuse issues. She has assisted hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare providers with internal compliance investigations, developed compliance programs, conducted compliance education and training, and implemented reporting protocols.

Tamara represents a wide variety of individual and institutional clients, including healthcare providers, medical practice groups, hospitals, independent schools, ride-sharing corporations and local businesses.

Before joining Carmody, Tamara practiced in the areas of medical malpractice, professional liability and insurance defense at a firm in Fairfield County.

Tamara always demonstrated a strong interest in the medico-legal field. While in law school, she earned Distinguished Academic Achievement Awards in the following areas: Law and Medicine, 2008; Corporate Compliance in the Healthcare Industry, 2009; Mediation Advocacy, 2009; Therapeutic Jurisprudence, 2009.

Tamara enjoys volunteering in her local community and schools in Cheshire, Connecticut, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for EasterSeals of the Greater Waterbury area.

Experience

  • Successful defense of numerous professional liability claims against healthcare providers across many specialties.

  • Part of Carmody team that obtained summary judgment in state court on behalf of a Connecticut medical school in matter brought by former student alleging breach of contract.

  • Successfully represented a Connecticut hospital, medical practice group, and physician at a fact finding before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO). CHRO issued a finding of “no reasonable cause” on claimant’s claims of discrimination in a place of public accommodation.

  • Obtained summary judgment in state court on behalf of Connecticut employer in claim brought by former employee alleging disability discrimination and violation of the Palliative Use of Marijuana Act.

  • Successful defense of numerous healthcare practitioner and facility investigations initiated by the Department of Public Health.

  • Frequently advise healthcare provider clients regarding various regulatory compliance issues, including HIPAA.

  • Frequently prepare policies and procedures, management services agreements, and collaborative practice agreements, among others, for medical practices to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Successfully represented healthcare provider clients in audits initiated by CMS, DSS and other government entities.

  • Negotiated a favorable resolution of a complicated overpayment dispute between medical practice and commercial insurance company.
