Law Firm Summer Intern

Job Description-Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP
Title: Law Firm Summer Intern
Location: New Haven, Waterbury or Stamford, CT (In Person—ability to be in one of these offices
required)
Position: Seasonal/Part-Time (up to 15 hours per week)
Pay: $15/hr.

Description:
Carmody offers a Summer Internship Program for individuals who are not yet in law school that are
designed to provide a Summer Intern with little or no prior legal experience with a working
understanding of the many career pathways available in a law firm, including the roles of attorney,
paralegal, legal assistant, marketing and finance professional. The Summer Intern assists with general
office activities in an active law firm environment, as determined and directed by the Summer Intern
Coordinators, including research, writing, data entry, filing and general logistics. The Summer Intern will
also have an opportunity to learn about the firm’s varied practice areas, to shadow firm members, and
to participate in trainings and programming offered to our law student interns as appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants with research, writing, data entry, managing files and
  • flow of paperwork, such as organizing and filing documents as directed.
  • Assist the firm’s Finance Team with organizing and filing documents and retrieving information from
  • accounts payable and client billing files as requested.
  • Assist the firm’s Business Development and Marketing Team with the creation of promotional
  • materials, including PowerPoint presentations and other marketing material preparation; assist with
  • preparations for and attend marketing events as requested.
  • Assist firm attorneys and paralegals with special projects and attend firm events and programs as
  • appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving ability
  • Creativity and resourcefulness to seek out information/answers as required (internally and externally)
  • Attention to detail; ability to execute projects accurately
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint helpful but not required

2023 Diversity Scholar Program
Joint Summer Associate Experience

Carmody Torrance Sandak Hennessey LLP (“Carmody”) and the Eversource Energy Legal Department will provide a law student who comes from a community that is historically underrepresented in the legal profession, including communities of color, a unique opportunity to participate in their summer associate programs.  The selected student will spend half of the summer with the Eversource Legal Department where they will have an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day work experiences of in-house attorneys at a major Connecticut utility.  The other half of the program will be spent at Carmody, a major Connecticut law firm, participating in its regular Summer Associate program with exposure to its training programs and work assignments as well as getting a feel for what a career at a firm is like.  A mentor from each organization will provide professional and personal development assistance.

Carmody and Eversource are committed to the recruitment and retention of attorneys who come from communities that are historically underrepresented in the legal profession, including communities of color.  Eversource and Carmody are active in the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity and both were founding members of this group.  As part of our ongoing efforts to promote diversity in the Connecticut legal community, we are pleased to offer this opportunity to first year law students.

Selection Criteria

All first-year students who come from communities that are historically underrepresented in the legal profession, including communities of color, at ABA accredited law schools are encouraged to apply.  The candidate will be selected based on academic, personal and professional achievement.
