Patent Agent – New Haven or Stamford Office

Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP seeks a patent agent with at least two years’ experience to join our patent prosecution team in either our New Haven or Stamford office. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science, and will have experience with all stages of patent prosecution, including drafting original applications, responding to official actions, and appeals. Candidates should be licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, be self-motivated to produce a high-quality work product independently, and possess strong communication and client service skills. Experience with international filings and working with agents outside the U.S. is a plus.

Immigration Paralegal – New Haven or Stamford Office

Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP seeks an experienced Immigration Paralegal to join our team in our New Haven office. The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience in employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petition preparation.  Responsible for preparing H, L and O visa petitions, as well as J-1 waiver applications. PERM expertise required, along with preparation of employer-sponsored and self-petitioned immigrant visa petitions.  

Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills, high attention to detail, excellent client-facing service, independent thinking, issue-spotting capabilities, and ability to work both independently and part of a close team.

This is an in-office, non-remote position.  A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and/or paralegal certificate is required.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assisting attorneys in preparing immigration forms and submitting petitions to relevant government agencies
  • Tracking case deadlines and processing times
  • Interfacing with clients and managing client documents
  • Providing general case management

Pay: $35-$45/hr; 37.5 hours per week

HR and Marketing Assistant – New Haven Office (non-remote)

The HR and Marketing Assistant reports to the Director of Talent & Diversity and the Director of Business Development & Marketing, providing support for the firm and for each of its practice groups. The Assistant holds an integral role in the coordination and execution of the firm’s people operations, diversity equity and inclusion work, and marketing related initiatives. These activities include, but are not limited to, assisting with initial phases of candidate recruitment; assisting with onboarding and offboarding processes; executing on firmwide diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; creating marketing communications; online content management; administrative duties; event planning; public relations; and market research.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with job postings, initial candidate review, and communicating with job applicants;
  • Coordinating employee onboarding and offboarding schedules and materials;
  • Preparing in-firm correspondences for the HR team and monitoring key HR compliance deadlines;
  • Assisting in the implementation of DEI initiatives as identified by the DEI Team, including scheduling webinars and other programming;
  • Implementing edits to website e.g. bios, experience, insights, job postings
  • Social media posting
  • Formatting and distributing press releases
  • Formatting proposal and presentation documents.
  • Maintain marketing contact database – adding, amending, deleting contact information, checking accuracy of data
  • Assist with event planning, logistics, day-of support, drafting/designing invitations, overseeing online registrations
  • Sponsorship support – coordinating with lead partner and event organizer, processing payment, developing any associated advertisements, help coordinate attendance at event and any other supporting activity
  • Tracking various data sets e.g. experience, referrals, new business pitches and pulling results into simple reports
  • Assist with design, production and ordering of firm promotional items

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Should be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and content management systems, social media applications and contact management databases. Knowledge and experience of design software (e.g. Canva), WordPress is desirable. The HR and Marketing Assistant position will be located in the Firm’s New Haven office; the position involves occasional travel to the Firm’s other office locations, and other CT venues as required for event planning, and support of Firm internal and external seminars, and other Firm marketing events.
