It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend and partner Marianne Barbino Dubuque.

Marianne joined Carmody in 1983 after receiving her J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School.  Throughout her 40 years at Carmody, Marianne was known as a skilled, trusted and tenacious lawyer and advocate for clients.  Her varied practice included representing electric, gas and telecom companies in real estate and infrastructure projects along with a number of municipalities and non-profits in land use and real estate matters.  Mid-way through her career, Marianne pursued and achieved her MBA so that she could better understand the needs of her clients   As those lucky enough to work with her know, Marianne possessed exceptional problem-solving skills.  She took great joy in partnering with clients to find solutions, and clients remarked that her assertiveness, practical advice and good sense of humor made her a pleasure to work with.

Marianne was also a force for positivity within the Firm.  She was active in Women@Carmody, a key member of the Firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team, and a leader on the Carmody Cares Committee, which oversees the Firm’s philanthropic work in the communities we serve.  Marianne was also a mentor for many at Carmody, and always made time to teach and train the next generation of Carmody lawyers and staff.

Marianne’s generosity of spirit also extended to the greater Waterbury community.  As a proud, lifelong resident of the City of Waterbury, Marianne often organized charitable initiatives to give back to the community.  Most recently, Marianne organized a book drive for local libraries that featured characters or authors of color, and a snack drive for local children facing hunger. When not serving her clients and her community, Marianne could often be found enjoying time with her family or volunteering her talents as a soccer referee. Marianne will be remembered not only as an exceptional lawyer but as an exceptional person and will be missed beyond measure.

The entire Carmody family extends its sympathy to Marianne’s family, and in particular her husband Ron and three children, all of whom are close friends of the Firm.
