In an important development in Stamford, the City’s 32nd Board of Representatives approved in their meeting earlier this month a reduction in building permit fees to $25.26 per $1,000 of estimated building cost above $1.3 million for commercial projects. This reduction would go into effect on or about July 1, 2026. The fees associated with building costs below $1.3 million remain unchanged.

You may remember recently, in August 2025, the 31st Board of Representatives increased building permit fees for the same projects to $35.26 per $1,000 of estimated building cost, which became effective on or about December 1, 2025. Prior to this increase, the building permit fee for similar projects was $25 per $1,000 of estimated building cost.

The reduction approved during this April meeting of the 32nd Board of Representatives effectively represents a reversal of that 2025 increase to its previous level. By way of example, for a $100 million building, this change represents approximately $987,000 in savings.
