As part of the next phase of the City of Norwalk’s comprehensive zoning rewrite, meetings with neighborhood groups and in Common Council districts to present the proposed zoning map and regulations will commence this week. Meetings will be a mix of in-person and Zoom formats, offering property owners, interested parties and other stakeholders an opportunity to hear from and provide feedback to zoning staff, ask questions and share concerns. The first meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2023 at 6:30 pm at 501 Merritt 7. A list of currently scheduled meetings is below, and property owners and others may attend any number of scheduled meetings.

Initial public hearings before the City of Norwalk Planning & Zoning Commission on the proposed zone map and regulations are tentatively scheduled for June 2023, with additional hearings slated for September 2023. The current timeline anticipates adoption of regulations in September, with late fall effective dates. The proposed map and regulations can be found on the Department of Planning & Zoning website.

In order to better understand the impact of the proposed changes on current property zoning classifications and uses and on future development plans, we urge our clients – residential and commercial – to attend the community meetings and share questions, comments and concerns with staff. The city has also suggested that property owners send comments to via email to Steve Kleppin skleppin@norwalkct.gov or Bryan Baker bbaker@norwalkct.gov, or through the online comment submittal form found at: https://forms.office.com/g/ve2AXpRCYj

Carmody attorneys continue to evaluate and monitor the proposed map and regulations, and are available to discuss potential impacts to property owners.
