Waterbury (April 23, 2012) — On Tuesday, April 10, dozens of local women professionals gathered for a Women’s Networking Happy Hour held at the Timexpo Museum in support of Waterbury Youth Services (WYS). Items collected included diapers, school supplies, and children’s games, and the executive director of WYS left the event with her hands and trunk full.

The Connecticut Community Foundation’s Women’s Initiative Fund and Carmody & Torrance’s Women@Carmody have partnered to organize several Women’s Networking Happy Hour events to bring together Waterbury-area women professionals while giving back to the community. At each event, attendees are asked to bring an item to donate to a local charity rather than purchase a ticket.

In 2011, the group proudly collected hundreds of food and toiletry items for Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury and over 60 pairs of mittens, scarves, and hats for the Waterbury Republican American Annual Holiday Mitten Drive. Isa Squicciarini, co-chair of Women@Carmody, commented, “We wanted to find a way to bring the Waterbury area’s women professionals together while supporting a local organization. We are thrilled with the response we’ve received and grateful for the generosity these women have shown in support of some great causes.”

Women@Carmody is a women’s mentoring group within Carmody & Torrance. In addition to providing mentoring and idea exchange among women professionals, the group’s mission is also to promote volunteerism and community engagement.
