The Connecticut Law Tribune has announced that Ann H. Rubin, a partner at Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP and a resident of Woodbridge, is one of the honorees for its inaugural Professional Excellence Awards. The awards honor attorneys with 30 or more years of experience who have made substantial contributions during their careers to law firms, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, corporations, law schools and the judiciary, and to the practice of law in general.
Ann joined Carmody in 1983, and quickly developed a reputation for tenacity and attention to detail. She was elected a partner in 1990, when only three of the Firm’s nineteen partners were women. Ann’s practice focuses on business litigation, arbitration, and reinsurance disputes, in federal and state court. She has represented international chemical and watch companies, the region’s major electric utility, national insurance agents and brokers, national and regional financial institutions, major law firms and professional service providers, State agencies, physician groups, partnerships, insurers, and reinsurers. Her clients appreciate her practical and aggressive representation and her focus on accomplishing their business goals.
In addition to her success as a litigator, Ann has been a strong advocate for women lawyers, both within the firm and in the legal community. In 2006, Ann was elected the first female managing partner in Carmody’s history and, in fact, the first in the history of medium to large firms in Connecticut. She is a caring and supportive mentor, especially to female associates, assisting them with client development and relationship skills. In 2008, Ann was a founder of the Firm’s “Women@Carmody” initiative. The program was created to foster professional and personal growth in our Firm and in the community, and Ann has encouraged and supported its development through the Firm’s financial commitment and by contributing her time, ideas and leadership. Ann was also a driving force in establishing Carmody’s Diversity Scholar Program in partnership with the Northeast Utilities Legal Department.
“Ann’s professional accomplishments speak for themselves,” said Brian T. Henebry, managing partner. “But it’s her underlying qualities – leadership, confidence, compassion, resolve – that make her stand out among her peers. Her contributions to our firm, and particularly to the professional and personal development of the women in our firm, are immeasurable. It is more than fitting that she be honored in this inaugural class of Professional Excellence Award winners.”
