Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP is pleased to announce that Matthew H. Gaul and Jason R. Gagnon have been elected as Partners of the firm, effective January 1, 2016.
Matthew Gaul has represented businesses in corporate, commercial and financial matters for more than 8 years. He represents public and closely-held businesses and non-profit organizations in all aspects of their operations, including entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, lending, work-outs corporate governance matters and real estate transactions and leasing. He also represents financial institutions in a variety of matters, including commercial mortgages and secured financings.
Matthew is an active leader in the legal and business communities. He is on the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He is also the chair of the Section’s Nonstock Corporations Committee, and served on its drafting committees for the Connecticut Revised Limited Liability Company Act and the Connecticut Entity Transactions Act. He is a member of the American, Connecticut and New Haven County Bar Associations, and is a member of the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals. In 2015, Matthew was selected as a “New Leader in the Law” by the Connecticut Law Tribune and has been selected to the Connecticut Super Lawyers® “Rising Stars” list since 2013.
“Matt’s broad knowledge of business law, as well as his understanding of the business climate in Connecticut, provides clients with well-rounded legal counsel,” said Tom Candrick, Carmody’s Business Services Practice Group co-leader. “His calm, collected and unassuming demeanor allows him to cut through the white noise and get to the real issues for his clients.”
Matthew earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and his B.A. from Boston College.
In his seven years with the firm, Jason Gagnon’s practice has focused on commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on products liability, utility law, and employment law. His clients include national and multinational manufacturers, public utilities, large and small employers, and financial institutions. Jason routinely works with these companies to develop integrated systems of best practices for avoiding and managing products liability claims covering a wide range of areas – from product development and risk allocation in contracts to litigation and trial. He also regularly trains management and executive level employees on best practices. Clients often credit Jason’s knowledge and understanding of their businesses, employees, and markets with his ability to facilitate implementing products liability prevention programs and litigation strategies, while minimizing disruption to their business operations.
In addition to products liability, he has represented a broad range of clients on matters alleging breach of contract, unfair trade practices, defamation, personal injury, and employment discrimination.
“Jason is pragmatic, disciplined, and insightful,” said James K. Robertson, Jr., a partner who works closely with Jason. “On any given case, he is thorough and sees the whole picture. He understands not only the law but the industry and market in which a client is operating with a level of sophistication far beyond his years.”
Jason earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.A. from Florida State University. He is on the Board of Directors of the Mattatuck Museum and a member of the Connecticut and Waterbury Bar Associations. He has been selected to the Connecticut Super Lawyers® “Rising Stars” list since 2012.
