SUMMARY:New FMLA Law and Other Significant Employment Updates
DESCRIPTION:On September 26th\, attorneys Giovanna Weller and Nick Zaino will be presenting to the Fairfield County Bar Association. They will discuss CT legislative developments\, including paid FMLA and the changes to CT’s harassment laws. \nAbout the Program  \nThis legislative session that recently ended on June 5th produced several important new laws affecting Connecticut employers\, including law firms of all sizes. First and foremost\, Connecticut has a new paid FMLA law that will impact nearly every employer and employee. It is probably the most significant workplace law that Connecticut has passed in decades…and many employers are not aware of its significant scope. The new law will create an insurance program that will pay individuals who are eligible for FMLA leave. The money to fund the program will be collected from an employee payroll tax\, and the insurance program will be administered by a new quasi-public agency of the state of Connecticut. The new law also expands who is a covered employee\, increases the amount of job-protected time off\, and expands the definition of family members. \nIn addition to paid FMLA\, the Connecticut legislature also passed sweeping changes to Connecticut’s sexual harassment training requirements\, expanded the time period for filing discrimination complaints\, expanded the damages available for discrimination complaints\, and significantly increased the state’s minimum wage. \nFor more information and to register\, please click here.
