Todd Michaelis is an associate in Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey’s litigation group, which was named a “highly recommended” Connecticut litigation team in Benchmark Litigation’s Guide To Leading Business Litigation Firms and Attorneys.  Todd represents clients in complex matters involving a wide variety of business and commercial disputes, in state and federal court, and in arbitration.  He has litigated a wide variety of cases before Connecticut’s state and federal courts, and has handled appeals before Connecticut’s Supreme and Appellate Courts and before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.  Todd has represented the region’s major electric utility and chemical companies; insurance companies, agents, and brokers; physician groups; individual tort victims; financial institutions; and municipalities.

  • Part of team that obtained dismissal of $200 million federal court subrogation action against gas transmission company arising from power plant explosion; authored motions that led to the dismissal
  • Successfully defended a physician group in an arbitration concerning an employment and contract dispute
  • Won a Superior Court trial to obtain recovery for a utility company for damage to its facilities
  • Successfully defended an appeal concerning a reinsurance dispute before the Connecticut Appellate Court
  • Successfully defended an appeal on behalf of a health care products manufacturer and distributor before the Connecticut Supreme Court
  • Obtained summary judgment in federal court on behalf of a manufacturer involved in contract dispute
  • Part of a team that obtained summary judgment in federal court on a behalf of an international manufacturing company against a qui tam plaintiff alleging violations of former false marking statute
  • Served as lead counsel for utility company in multiple commercial property damage actions
  • Defended numerous personal injury cases
  • Negotiated favorable settlements on behalf of a variety of clients in a variety of matters
